Blankie: Lost & Found

Last Friday I took the kiddies into the pediatrician so Ollie could get his flu shot booster and a weight check. Everything went fine and we had a great remainder of the day, but when bedtime came we couldn't find Taylor's super-special-had-it-since-he-was-a-baby-can't-sleep-without-it blanket. Sean and I turned the house and car upside-down three times and ran through the day's events again and again before we finally broke it to Taylor that blankie was lost and most likely got left at the doctor's office. Unfortunately because it was Friday we had to wait through the weekend to get it back. It was a rough, traumatic couple of days, but Sean drove to the pediatrician's office first thing Monday morning, picked up the blanket, and brought it straight home to Tay. The reunion was precious and all is once again peaceful (for the most part) here at the Nichols household.

Super Chicken

Living with Taylor is like having permanent, hilarious comic relief 24 hours a day. He just never ceases to make me laugh, even when I'm having a bad day.

With that in mind, I give you....

(pause for dramatic effect)....

More Halloween Decorations

Yesterday Tay and I added some finishing touches to our Halloween decorating. We added some bats to the walls, and turned our lamps into Jack-O-Lamps. I just love this time of year!

Halloween in the garden

So maybe I got a little carried away.

But I sure love it.

Horseback Riding

Sean's mom has a couple of horses and occasionally we take the kids up to see them. Up until now Taylor has been pretty scared of them, and then that fear slowly turned into indifference, which finally turned into curiosity and interest. After seeing the horses several times on other occasions, he finally decided this last weekend that he wanted to get up in the saddle and ride with Grandma. From the first second he was up on the horse, he was completely hooked. They rode around the arena several times and each time they came back around Taylor would beg to go around just one more time. At one point as they galloped away all we heard was Tay whooping and "yee-hawing." He had an absolute blast, and I'm sure it won't be the last time he'll get up in the saddle.

My son is a little bit crazy.

But that's what I love about him.

10 Months

Yep, another month has gone by, and I can't help but wonder where on earth the time has gone! In a matter of weeks my little one will be a year old, and that just blows my mind.

In going over the pictures from this past month I had a really hard time finding any of Oliver that were in focus. I was a little disappointed at first, but then realized that the reason behind it is one of the biggest things I love about Ollie - he never sits still! This baby is so curious and brave and adventurous, which is awesome and also makes Mama insanely nervous.

Oliver typically spends his days doing the following:
- Peeking over all the baby gates we put up to contain him and screaming at us.
- Trying to get to all of Taylor's toys.
- Crawling after Tay as fast as he can even though he can never catch up to him.
- Eating absolutely everything in sight and then begging for more food.
- Turning the BluRay player on over and over again.
- Turning the tv volume up over and over again.
- Messing with the tv remote over and over again.
- Being told "no" by me over and over again.
- Laughing and shaking his head at me every time I tell him "no" and then continuing to do whatever it was I told him to stop doing.
- Dancing like crazy every time he hears a song.
- Crawling all over me and Tay every time we sit on the floor with him.
- Babbling and squealing and yodeling at the top of his lungs.

Oliver's sleep has improved ten fold since we started sleep training him at the beginning of last month. He's now sleeping 10-11 hours through the night, typically going down at about seven and waking up at six in the morning. It's been so nice to get some real sleep at night, and I think all of us are in a better mood in the morning because of it. As soon as we're sure that he's going to keep up this sleep schedule we'll move the boys into the same room.

Ollie is just a little ray of sunshine in my life and I'm so absolutely in love with both of my boys. Life is so good!
