I have to brag...

Okay, so I have to brag a bit about how wonderful my husband is.

Last night was a REALLY rough night for me. Taylor wouldn't stay asleep for longer than an hour and half and every time I'd get him back to sleep and lay him in his crib he would jerk his head back and forth in an effort to wake himself up. ARG! On top of that Sean was dying of heat in our room because I was freezing and refused to open the windows. Eventually I gave in, opened the windows, and slept the rest of the night on the sofa, which wouldn't be so bad if our cat wasn't so neurotic. When I wasn't up with the baby I was listening to her run all over the house, meow at the ceiling, and scratch at the blinds.

So, needless to say, I was in bad shape this morning.

Luckily Sean got some good sleep and took the baby from me as soon as I fed him at around 8am. Then he let me go back to bed and he took Taylor for a long drive. I woke up at 11am (can't remember the last time I slept that late) to my sweet baby and husband sitting on the bed next to me, holding out a small gift bag. Inside was a cute lovey card and a necklace and earring set that has one big heart attached to one smaller heart - one for Sean and one for Taylor. I bawled like a baby.

Sometimes I have nights (and the occasional day) when I feel exhausted, unappreciated, and incapable of doing this mommy thing for very much longer. Then my hubby steps in and makes me feel like the best wife, mom, and woman in the world. It recharges me in a way that nothing else can.

I love him so much.

Now and Then...

I'm on a message board with a bunch of women who were all due with their first babies in June of this year. We started a pictures thread and post pictures with different themes every week. This weeks theme was "Now and Then," and we were supposed to post pictures of our babies as newborns compared to what they look like now. I really loved this theme and thought I'd share the pictures I posted of Taylor.

Cereal and rolling over... my baby is growing up!

We started Taylor on rice cereal two nights ago. I originally wanted to wait until he was 6 months old, but he was hungry CONSTANTLY and showed all the signs of being ready for solids, plus the pediatrician gave us the go-ahead. We sit him in his Bumbo to eat and he looks so cute with a bib on and cereal all over his face. I'm really surprised at how well he took to it; he hardly spits out any food and LOVES eating off of a spoon.

Here's a little video of his first official meal:

He has also finally started rolling over. He has yet to do it for Sean, but he's doing it for me pretty regularly now. Here's a video of the third time he did it:

I love watching my little boy grow and learn new things. Being a mommy is so great!!

"Wild at Heart"

I'm reading a book right now by John and Stasi Eldredge called "Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul." The Eldredges are a married Christian couple and John has also written a book for men that I just finished this morning - "Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul." Both books are really wonderful and I would recommend them to anyone.

There is an excerpt from "Wild at Heart" that I just love and thought I'd share:

"If you had permission to do what you really want to do, what would you do? Don't ask how, that will cut your desire off at the knees. How is never the right question; how is a faithless question. It means 'unless I can see my way clearly I won't believe it, won't venture forth.' When the angel told Zechariah that his ancient wife would bear him a son named John, Zechariah asked how and was struck dumb for it. How is God's department. He is asking you what. What is written in your heart? What makes you come alive? If you could do what you've always wanted to do, what would it be? You see, a man's calling is written on the frontier of his deep desires. To paraphrase Bailie, don't ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive, because what the world needs are men who have come alive."

This quote gave me goosebumps. Just something to think about...

So many things to do...

My house needs help.

Last year I owned my own professional organizing business, and you'd think with that kind of background my home would be spotless. Not so.

Let me give you some idea of the damage. I'm sitting here on my sofa that is in desperate need of vacuuming. In front of me is the coffee table stacked with magazines, notebooks, movies, books, dirty dishes, a Slurpee cup, and a tube of Bordeaux's Butt Paste (yep, that's what it's really called).

On the floor all over the living room is piles of dirty laundry I have yet to do. There's also 3 blankets laid out for the baby, a huge jumper that takes up way too much room in our tiny house, baby books, and shoes. Lots and lots of shoes.

I hope you're getting the idea.

I think a huge part of becoming a parent is just accepting the fact that there will never be a day when your house is completely clean, the laundry and dishes are done, and you actually have had time to shower, dry your hair, get dressed, and put on makeup. It's just not going to happen. The laundry is never-ending, my sink is constantly full of dishes, there is baby drool and spit-up stains all over my clothes, I'm constantly tripping over toys and shoes and a cat, and I'm lucky if I get to wash my hair every 2 days.

And you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way.

Busy Day...

Today was so crazy...

We made the trek into Salt Lake to visit family because Sean's 25th birthday is tomorrow. We left bright and early and our first stop was to Sean's grandparents house. It was a really nice visit, but Taylor started getting cranky after about an hour or so (he usually does at their house) and so we headed for my grandparents house right afterward. When we got there Taylor was running a MAJOR temperature - I'm guessing from the shots he had yesterday at his 4 month appointment. So I gave him some Tylenol and my mom got him to sleep for a while.

At 2:30pm we went to our friends Marcus and Paola Jones' house for a barbeque. Sean thought it would just be them, but I had actually invited a bunch of our old friends over to surprise him. I was kinda bummed because a lot of them didn't show up - probably because of the bad weather - but we still had a lot of fun. It's so crazy to see all of the friends we hung out with in high school all married and having kids too. We're going to try to get together with them more and have somewhat of a social life again, which will be awesome.

The drive home was terrible and Taylor screamed the whole way back to Provo, which was really stressful. He's doing great right now though and is all smiles now that we're back home.

Just a quick update on Taylor's stats as of yesterday:
Weight: 15lbs 8oz (65th percentile)
Length: 26 inches (86th percentile)
Head: 17 inches (75th percentile)

It has been a VERY long day and my bed is calling me. Now if I can just get the baby to sleep...

Here we are!

I was inspired by my good friend Christine to FINALLY create a family blog.

My name is Anne and I've been married to Sean - the absolute LOVE of my life - for a little over 5 years now. On May 21st of this year we had our first baby Taylor. He is so amazing and I never knew I could love someone so much! I'm a stay-at-home mommy and love to be able to spend so much time with my little one. Life is crazy and messy and chaotic, but it's the best it's ever been.

Here's my pride and joy:

Sean and I are currently living in a little rental house in Provo, Utah, and although we miss our friends and family in Salt Lake, we really love it out here. The mountains are absolutely beautiful (especially at this time of year) and we live in a great neighborhood.

I hope to be able to write in this blog every day and share a little piece of my life with all of you. Being a mother is sometimes INCREDIBLY exhausting and it'll be nice to have a bit of an outlet here.

So welcome to our world!
